Spectre - My view

Spectre - My view
***********************
Spectre, latest offering from James Bond series. I managed to watch it.
Before stepping into the review or my view, first thing about Bond 007 is - as Ian Fleming described 'James Bond as being debonair, suave, a charming lady killer, coupled with a dedicated saboteur who do anything for his country and of course a great seducer'. James Bond 007 is not just about action, performance, killing and chasing the target; he is more than that. James Bond is signature for style, killer looks. That's what missing with this Bond. Bond has got 'licence to kill' the goons with guns and girls with his stylish/seducing looks. Daniel Craig as Bond and that too after Brosnan - hmmm, I am not much satisfied (of course this is his 4th Bond movie, but this is the first one I watched it after Daniel Craig stepped into the Bond character). I have seen almost all the Bond movies except for the last three movies - Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace and Skyfall. From Sean Connery followed by George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and finally Daniel Craig; out of all these, each successor was a little better in the characteristics mentioned by Ian Fleming -'debonair, suave, a charming lady killer' except for Daniel Craig. I agree that Daniel Craig is an excellent actor, but as mentioned Bond is not just about performance and stunts, he is an icon for style and looks.

Next thing that is not up to the mark in this film is Bond girl. Since the days of Ursula Andres (her iconic debue as Bond girl, raising from sea in bikini), Bond girls are so much popular on par with Bond. Beautiful, sexy, daring and 'killer' in all the way should be the characteristics of Bond girl. Bond girls are like fully loaded guns, aimed to kill Bond either by shot or by sex. In this movie, Bond girl is not that attractive and not that effective in other terms too. As a Bond flims admirer and viewer, I would like to see a super hot, super sexy Bond girl. The girl who donned the Bond girl role in Spectre Léa Seydoux is otherwise good looking, but the oomph factor required for Bond girl is missing.

One person who fits the bill perfectly is Christoph Waltz as the antogonist. Though he has got minimum screen presence, he made a strong and striking presence felt whenver he appears on screen. His body language, confidence and performance are very good. Of course he need no special introduction as Quentin Tarantino made him much popular in all means with his films.
Sprectre as an action thriller movie looks great and holds you till the end. But, as a Bond movie it lacks that signature style of both Bond. In places I felt, Sam Mendes would have bettered screenplay to give little more space to Spectre team and Chris Waltz but that's not a flaw here, only a betterment required I felt. I hope makers will take care in choosing Bond (I think Daniel Craig has got one more Bond film as per the contract) and Bond girl in next movies ... this is my view only.
